Work Experience
Performed research to combat resilient bacterial infections through nanomaterial-based strategies. Developed a combination therapy using engineered polymeric nanoparticles against resistant bacterial species. Analyzed the membrane perturbation ability of polymers against uropathogenic clinical isolates of E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa using NPN uptake assays. Developed biodegradable antimicrobial polymeric nanoemulsions to be loaded into hydrogels, for effective topical wound biofilm therapeutics. Responsibilities ranged from: cell culturing,
centrifugation, micro-pipetting, spectrophotometry and also formulation chemistry.
Helped coordinate a clinical trial focused on infectious diseases such as Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) and Community Associated Pneumonia (CAP). For our study, we would take breath samples from patients with their consent. I would meet with many patients, families and attending physicians/residents to explain our study and get consent. Also operated a Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry Machine (GC-MS) and biomedical equipment for breath samples.
Assisted postdocs/MDs in Dr.Korkut's lab by helping them run liver perfusions, helped set up Normothermic ex-vivo machine perfusion systems and analyzed data using a Rapidpoint 500 and Siemens machine. Skilled in running Packed red blood cell perfusions, and using transplantation devices like silicone and membrane oxygenators for cardiopulmonary bypass and ECMO.
Role was to fill prescriptions, receive and verify the prescriptions, prepare medications for patients & call insurance companies, prescribers, patients and other pharmaceuticals.
Helped amplify sales by speaking with restaurant, hotel and bar owners/managers to seek a partnership; by supplying them with Red Bull, providing marketing support & furthering connections.
Recognized and utilized the power I held as a student, to dismantle political and economic structures that reinforce inequalities in the Boston Public Schools system; planned meetings, lobbied in the state house, and educated thousands of BPS students about their rights.
